Elephantito Mary Janes

Elephantito Mary Janes

A pair of Mary Janes come with all kinds of classic connotations: the quintessential, well-dressed American children; the perfectly coiffed ponytails; the wholesome crowd at baseball games and birthday parties. Well-crafted, comfortable, durable, but so feminine with its famous instep strap, Mary Janes have been a staple for little girls for as long as we can remember.

Sometimes, however, classic styles need a dose of modern energy and values. Most little girls in the United States aren’t called Mary or Jane anymore. Richly diverse, our little superstars have names from all over the world: from Latin America, China, Ghana, Indonesia, France, Russia, and more. They wear Mary Janes to their robotics competitions or debate events or meetings of their service clubs.

Elephantito has carried the aesthetic of the old Mary Jane into the new generation.  Our Mary Janes have durable, flexible soles, because we don’t expect little girls to stand by the sidelines when boys are wild at play.  Like all our shoes, our Mary Janes are lovingly made by expert shoe artisans. This timeless construction comes to life in metallics— gold and silver and a bronzy blush— and flamingo pinks, chili reds, and fierce patents. Bright outsoles, flower decals, leopard prints, suede peek-a-boo styles. We like to say our Mary Janes aren’t for plain Janes, after all.

Elephantito is all about new takes on old styles. There’s nothing better than continuity through change.  Our Mary Janes are available for babies, toddlers, kids, and tweens, because classic is more adaptable than you might think.

“Dressing up” for Thanksgiving - a real purpose

“Dressing up” for Thanksgiving - a real purpose

Every year, right around Thanksgiving, we get our gratitude speeches ready. Talking to our children about being thoughtful and appreciative of the gifts they’ve been given is an important tradition, one we hope our families never outgrow. It’s a time to think deeply about togetherness and the qualities this brings out in each of us. While sitting around the table and passing around food, the thing we wish for every year is that our kids see the love we put into this holiday and every day in general. We want them to be grateful because gratitude is a cornerstone of both goodness and happiness, and what more could we ask for them?
Here’s something, however, that escapes us sometimes. How often do we ask ourselves if we are grateful enough? Do we think about how lucky we are to live our lives and raise the children we have? Thanksgiving is a time for us, too, to reflect on this appreciation and find ways to integrate it into our lives. One way to do this is through what seems like a simple parenting decision— dressing your child in Elephantito, especially on Thanksgiving day.

“Dressing up” serves a real purpose, even if our instinct is to think it is superficial. It shows respect for the occasion, marking it as different from other days of the year. It reminds us that it is a day for making memories, because we always like to remember ourselves looking our best. That’s because caring—about anything or anyone, including yourself— is one way to show appreciation for what you have. And the same goes for our children, too. We love their joy, sense of freedom, and all the ways in which they change, grow, and surprise us. We’re grateful to give our lives to them and we show them that by always giving them the best we can (and with Elephantito’s pricing, we make the best accessible to every parent out there). When we dress our child up in quality clothing, we crystallize them one at moment forever, create a memory to hold onto as they grow another inch, age another year. It says to them: you’re worth it. It says to them: we want you to carry this day, this dinner, in your hearts forever. It says: we hope you appreciate us— and everything— too.

Get Suri Cruise's adorable look this Spring

Suri Cruise's fashion game is enviable. We all love to see the pictures of her out enjoying New York with her equally fashionable mom Katie Holmes. This adorable girl has the best flats in the land, so much so that I'm dying for my own adult version of her shoe closet. Considering this, it's no surprise that for this month's fashion inspiration we would go way back into the archive and choose this beautiful look to recreate with a fresh new take that's fitting for the warmer weather that is awaiting us this Spring.

The Love Red Smocked Dress currently on sale for $50.40 features a round piece with Piping accent in the neckline and is lightweight.

The real show stopper here are Suri's beautiful and versatile silver ballet flats. At Elephantito, we have the perfect pair to complete this look. The French Ballet Flats in silver for $73.00, give this dress just enough glitz, wouldn't you say?

These beautiful pieces are one of a kind and made at our factory in Peru and go perfectly with Suri's relaxed yet elegant style. Something we think she get's from her impeccably dressed momma.
